Online Education Classes

The study of education includes classes on the history of American schools, student diversity, student learning, teaching methods, and the educational issues that teachers face. Programs will provide insight into child development, curriculum models, lesson planning, classroom management, instruction, and assessment. Some programs may also offer certification classes for early childhood, elementary, or secondary education. Upon earning a degree, students can go on to teach within public or private schools.

Knowledge Gained

Training will cover the follow areas of study:

Child and Adolescent Development

Students will become familiar with the stages of learning and cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. They will also study the psychology of teaching, how social forces affect behaviors, and the importance of creating learning environments that are safe, healthy, and age-appropriate.

Curriculum Design

Teachers must know how to create learning opportunities in classroom settings that build subject knowledge, encourage a progression of learning, and promote real world connections. Classes will therefore focus on how to write lesson plans, choose learning materials, align learning objectives, and design appropriate activities.

Teaching Methods and Instructional Strategies

When creating successful learning experiences for all learners, teachers must use a variety of instructional stategies. Students will therefore learn interactive teaching methods that include using visuals and multi-sensory teaching materials. They will also learn how to provide support and guidance.

Literacy Development

Literacy development classes are an essential part of the education curriculum. Future teachers will develop an understanding in how children learn to read and develop vocabulary. Language acquisition and English language development studies include language theories and practices for young readers and students who are English learners.

Exceptional Children

Classes will also address the learning differences associated with individual physical, mental, and behavioral abilities. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the educational and social needs of students with disabilities and gifted students, while adhering to policies and practices that support all students in a classroom setting.

Skills Developed

Students enrolled in online courses for education gain skills in the following areas:

Engaging Students

Future teachers will study a variety of teaching strategies for building interest in new materials, creating lesson topics, and evaluating tasks to facilitate greater learning and achievement.

Planning and Implementing Lessons

An inherent part of classes are lessons in developing curricula, establishing classroom policies, and constructing assessments to measure student learning. Students also learn how to start and end a class, prepare students for new material, structure lesson implementation, and align lesson tasks with learning objectives.
